The Lesson from Lego Camp
I recently took a quick break to swing by Lego camp for parent day. It was an awesome experience seeing what my kiddo had been working on all week. Watching the children explain their creations was highly insightful; every single child had something totally different in their Lego city.
This experience immediately brought to mind the world of marketing a small business. Just as every child approaches their building project uniquely, every entrepreneur expresses their creativity differently when marketing.
Finding Your Unique Marketing City
The core takeaway from observing the Lego city is that marketing is not a uniform activity. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to marketing, particularly when operating in a small town.
Entrepreneurs find success by leaning into different avenues, such as:
- Being all in on video.
- Liking writing.
- Obsessing over their logo.
- Wanting to talk to people face to face.
The diversity in expression means that your marketing efforts should reflect your specific strengths and interests.
Build What Feels True to You
If you look at successful small business marketing, it is driven by individuality and authenticity. What truly matters is that you’re building something that feels true to you.
You absolutely don’t have to copy your competitors, nor do you need to do what the big guys are doing. Trying to force your business into a marketing mold that doesn’t fit your passion or skills is often counterproductive.
The Power of Imagination and Passion
Just like the incredible variety seen in the Lego towns, the best marketing comes from your own imagination and your passion. When you tap into those personal drivers, you create something genuine and compelling.
So, don’t worry about standard practices or following the crowd. Go ahead and build your own version of awesome! If you need guidance figuring out how to share that unique creation with the world, I’m just a message away.
